A Community Food Project Grant

I am seeking to fund a community food project (https://nifa.usda.gov) that connects growers, producers, educators and low-income family consumers in the Bethany, OK area. I’m looking to include chefs, meal planners, shoppers, couponers, and local food pantries and farmers (probably through the okfood.coop) to work together in a way that’s really going to benefit everyone involved.

The end result will be take-and-bake meals that students help make during an after-school program (with community chefs) that can be purchased with SNAP and taken home to heat up (helping working adults put healthy food on the table at an affordable price).

This project (once complete) can be reproduced in other communities.

There would be two prospective after-school locations: one at 23rd and Rockwell (next to Westlake Hardware, for kids that go to Western Oaks) and another at 39th and Rockwell (The BFC’s Family Life Center for kids that go to Bethany Public Schools).

We would also purchase the Western Oaks Tower to run a techJOYnT (75 kid-run STEAM projects and businesses, including selling the dinners and produce from the community after-school program).  We would also start a public transportation route for the kids stopping at: Western Oaks, Western Oaks Tower, Ace Hardware, The Bethany Public Library, The FLC, Bethany Main Street, Bethany Schools, MacRory Park.
